Sell your business with
Medical business brokers
Healthcare is a specialist market. As dedicated medical & dental business brokers, we know how buyers value patient files, billings mix, practitioner contracts, accreditation and lease terms, so you exit on your terms, confidentially.
The specialist choice for selling your practice
Selling a medical, dental or allied health practice is a specialist transaction, and getting it wrong costs you money, momentum and goodwill. Here’s why practice owners choose Benchmark as their health practice brokers.
Healthcare is all we do in this division
Our medical & dental business brokers work exclusively on health practice sales, from dental clinics and GP practices to physiotherapy, radiology and NDIS allied health providers. You get brokers who speak your language, not generalists learning on your file.
A national database of qualified buyers
We market confidentially to a proprietary database of corporates, DSOs, investor groups and individual practitioners looking to buy, using data mining to reach local and international buyers who are genuinely ready to transact.
Solo practices to corporate groups
We cater to everyone, from independent small-to-medium practices through to large corporate firms. Whether you are a single-chair dentist or a multi-site allied health group, we scale the process to suit the transaction.
Licensed and active in four states
Fully licensed and active in NSW, QLD, Victoria and South Australia, and strong in all the major metros and key regional hubs, so your practice is exposed to the right buyers wherever it trades.
Hundreds of practices sold
We have successfully facilitated the sale of hundreds of practices since our founding, with the transaction experience and comparable evidence that comes with it.
Confidential process management
Your sale is managed discreetly from first enquiry to settlement, under strict confidentiality agreements and secure data room technology. Your staff, patients, landlord and referrers hear about it only when you choose to tell them.
End-to-end practice sale management
We offer an extensive end-to-end service for practice owners looking to sell. We handle the complexity so you can focus on your practice until the deal is done. Follow the seven stages below.
Preparation for sale
Detailed analysis of all financials and operational metrics. Before a single buyer hears your practice exists, we build the evidence base that a sale price has to stand on, and flag anything worth fixing while there is still time to fix it.
- Normalised earnings and add-back analysis across three years
- Billings mix, patient numbers and practitioner productivity review
- Lease, equipment and fit-out position confirmed
- Accreditation, registration and compliance gaps identified early
Documentation
Preparation of a detailed Appraisal and an extensive business Information Memoranda (IM). Buyers of health practices ask the same hard questions every time. We answer them in writing, up front, so your practice reads as a well-run business rather than a set of unknowns.
- Comprehensive business Information Memorandum for qualified buyers
- Practitioner, staffing and service-agreement summaries
- Anonymised marketing material that never identifies your practice
Appraisal
Formal appraisals and market assessments. We benchmark your practice against real comparable sales rather than a rule-of-thumb multiple, so you go to market with a defensible price and know exactly where you can and cannot move.
- Market appraisal benchmarked to recent comparable practice sales
- Sensitivity on the levers that move your multiple
- A clear price strategy and walk-away position before you list
Buyer sourcing
Confidential marketing to attract local, national and international buyers, utilising data mining strategies. Your practice is put in front of buyers who are already looking for exactly the type of business that you've built, without ever being named publicly.
- Data mining strategies targeting active healthcare acquirers
- Direct approaches to corporates, DSOs, investor groups and practitioners
- Local, national and international buyer reach
- Blind listings that protect staff, patient and referrer relationships
Vetting
Rigorous screening of buyers for financial strength and commercial fit. Your time is the scarcest thing in a sale, so only qualified, capable parties who are the right fit for your practice and your team, reach you.
- Proof of funds and finance capability assessed before disclosure
- Clinical credentials and ownership eligibility confirmed
- Commercial fit with your practice, team and patient base
- Time-wasters and competitors filtered out before they see figures
Confidentiality
Strict confidentiality agreements and qualified information distribution help protect your business. Clinical, financial and patient information is released progressively to selected buyers, with confidentiality maintained throughout the sale process.
- Confidentiality agreements signed before sensitive business information is released
- Buyer enquiries vetted to help ensure only qualified parties progress
- Information memorandums and supporting documents distributed selectively to protect commercially sensitive information
- You retain control over when and how staff, landlords and clients are informed
Negotiation & settlement
Expert negotiation to achieve a successful sale, in coordinating closely with legal and accounting professionals throughout the contract and settlement process. We manage the details, navigate challenges and maintain momentum through to settlement, ensuring your interests remain at the forefront until the sale is complete.
- Offers tested against the market and negotiated on your behalf
- Due diligence coordinated to protect momentum and confidentiality
- Liaison with solicitors and accountants on contracts, lease assignment and transfer of the booking system and patient database
- Stock valuation, settlement and a structured clinical handover
Get your practice sale ready
Selling a medial practice isn’t like selling a café; to ensure a smooth transaction and maximise your price, you must lay the proper groundwork by understanding the specific valuation levers that make your medical, dental or allied health practice most attractive to buyers.
Get an independent appraisal
Know your true market value before you talk price. We benchmark billings, patient numbers, practitioner hours and service mix against comparable practice sales, not guesswork.
Tidy up your financials
Three years of clean P&Ls, BAS and a normalised earnings figure. Add-backs on owner clinical income, motor vehicles and one-off costs can lift your sale price materially.
Review your patient base & billings mix
Active patient numbers, recall and retention, and the split between bulk-billing, private fee, health fund and NDIS or TAC funding are what buyers scrutinise most. We help you present this clearly and credibly.
Confirm your lease, fit-out & equipment
Security of tenure is a top buyer question. A strong, assignable lease with your fit-out, chairs, imaging and clinical equipment included widens your buyer pool and supports a higher multiple.
Sort practitioner contracts & compliance
Service agreements, associate and contractor arrangements, employment contracts, Ahpra registrations, accreditation and any relevant licensing all matter. Getting this in order early prevents nasty surprises during due diligence.
Plan your exit & transition
Decide whether you will stay on clinically for a handover period, sell outright, or bring in a partner first. Buyers pay for continuity, and a clear plan keeps you in control of the outcome.
Active patient base & recall
A large, well-documented active patient file with strong recall and retention is the single biggest driver of value. Buyers pay for recurring patient revenue, not one-off appointments
Practitioner retention & contracts
Associates, dentists, GPs and allied health practitioners who stay on after settlement, on solid service agreements, give buyers confidence the practice runs beyond the owner.
Billings mix & funding sources
The split between private fee, bulk-billing, health fund, NDIS, TAC and workers compensation funding shapes both risk and multiple. A diversified, defensible mix commands more.
Lease, fit-out & equipment
A long, assignable lease with modern surgeries, chairs, imaging and clinical equipment included gives buyers certainty and reduces their post-settlement capital spend.
Location & catchment
Population growth, demographics, referral networks, parking, co-location with pharmacy or pathology and local competition all shape demand for your practice.
Systems & practice software
Well-run practice-management software, clean clinical records, online booking and a strong online reputation directly affect how buyers value future revenue.
Accreditation & compliance
Current practice accreditation, Ahpra registrations, infection control, radiation licensing and sterilisation compliance remove risk from the buyer view and protect your value.
Clean financials
Transparent, well-documented earnings and a defensible normalised EBITDA shorten due diligence and build the buyer confidence that gets deals done.

Selling a medical or dental practice: FAQs
The questions practice owners ask our medical & dental business brokers most before going to market.
What types of medical and dental practices does Benchmark specialise in?
As specialist medical & dental business brokers, we cover the full breadth of the healthcare market: dental practices and dental clinics, orthodontic and specialist dental practices, medical practices and medical centres, GP clinics and family medicine practices, specialist medical practices, skin cancer and cosmetic medical clinics, allied health practices and multi-disciplinary allied health facilities, physiotherapy practices, radiology and diagnostic imaging practices, podiatry practices, speech therapy practices, psychology and mental health practices, occupational therapy practices, exercise physiology practices, optometry and audiology practices, veterinary practices, pharmacies, day surgeries and NDIS healthcare practices (brokerage and sale). We handle leasehold operations and freehold-with-practice sales, solo-practitioner clinics and multi-site groups, from independent small-to-medium practices up to large corporate firms.
How much is my medical or dental practice worth?
Value is driven by your normalised earnings, active patient base and recall rate, billings mix and funding sources, practitioner contracts and retention, your lease terms and equipment, and your accreditation and compliance position. We provide a confidential, no-obligation appraisal that benchmarks your practice against recent comparable sales rather than a rule-of-thumb multiple, and we can prepare a formal valuation where you need one for the ATO, family law, a partnership dispute or an acquisition.
Where do your health practice brokers operate?
We are fully licensed and active in NSW, QLD, Victoria and South Australia, and we are strong in all the major metros and key regional hubs. Benchmark also has offices and brokers right across Australia, so buyers are sourced nationally and internationally regardless of where your practice trades.
How long does it take to sell a practice?
Well-prepared practices with clean financials and a stable practitioner team often attract offers within a few weeks, with settlement typically following in two to six months depending on finance, due diligence, lease assignment and any regulatory or accreditation steps. Preparation before listing is the single biggest factor in a fast sale.
Can I sell just the practice, or do I need to own the premises?
Most practices sell as a leasehold operation, with the lease assigned to the buyer. If you own the premises, we can sell the freehold with the practice as a package, or sell the practice and retain the property as an investment with a lease in place. We will advise which structure attracts the strongest buyers in your circumstances.
What happens to my practitioners and staff?
Buyers are usually buying continuity, so retaining your associates, contractors and support staff is normally in everyone’s interest. We review service agreements, employment contracts and entitlements early, structure the transaction to support continuity, and manage when and how your team is told.
Will my staff, patients or referrers find out?
No. Confidentiality is central to how we work. Your practice is marketed without being named, every buyer signs a confidentiality agreement before receiving details, sensitive material is released through a secure data room, and you decide if and when to tell your team. Most of our sellers announce the sale only once it is done.
What compliance and accreditation do I need in order?
Buyers will check practice accreditation, Ahpra registrations for all practitioners, infection control and sterilisation records, radiation licensing where relevant, privacy and clinical records handling, and any NDIS or program registrations. Getting records in order before listing removes risk from the buyer view and protects your price. Your broker will flag what is worth addressing up front.
Who are the buyers for a health practice?
Buyers range from individual practitioners stepping into ownership, to established local practices expanding, through to corporate groups, dental and medical service organisations, and healthcare investors, both Australian and international. We market confidentially into our proprietary database and vet every party for financial strength and commercial fit before they reach you.
What are your fees?
Fees are agreed up front and are typically a combination of a marketing contribution and a success commission payable on settlement. There are no hidden charges. Your broker will walk you through the full engagement before you commit to anything.
Do I need to keep practising during the sale?
Yes, and it is in your interest to. A practice trading consistently, with your practitioners and patient bookings in place, demonstrates the earnings buyers are paying for and keeps momentum through due diligence to settlement.
